What Ambedkar said about Muslim view about Hindus is wrong.
First, Muslim rulers, especially Mughals, even Aurangzeb, did NOT declare Hindustan, the name given by Mughals to their kingdom in the Indian subcontinent, as an Islamic kingdom officially.
The Mughal State was a multireligious monarchy and you can find this even in Aurangzeb’s firmaans.
Secondly, the Indian Muslim clergy saw Hindus as Dhimmis and NOT Kaffirs.
THIS POINT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
Well read individuals also miss this.
In fact, Dar-ul-harb fatwa by Shah Abdul Aziz, the son of Shah Waliullah, the great cleric/political scientist of the 18th century, was issued in 1803, AFTER the British entered Delhi and took control of the Mughal emperor.
And whom did the British defeat?
Not a Mughal army but a Maratha army led by Daulat Rao Scindia, the son of Mahadji Scindia.
Lord Lake defeated Daulat Rao Scindia in the battle of Laswari and captured Delhi in 1803.
At that time, Mughals were under Maratha protection.
So, the point is that Shah Abdul Aziz declared Hindustan as Dar-ul-Harb AFTER the British took over–and NOT when Marathas were ruling Delhi as plenipotentiaries of the Mughals.
Then, the Dar-ul-Harb fatwa, mentions British as Kafirs and Hindus as Dhimmis.
If you read the fatwa, it clearly says: “neither Muslims or their Dhimmis are in power. That is why it is legitimate to wage Jihad against Kafirs, the British”.
This fatwa is unique as it reveals that under Islam, it is acceptable for Muslims to be ruled by their Dhimmis.
And clerics like Shah Abdul Aziz were comfortable while Marathas were ruling Delhi.
Marathas were not Kafirs.
In fact, Syed Ahmed Shahid who launched a Jihad to expel the British immediately after this fatwa, corresponded with Malhar Rao Holkar. Till Holkar was alive, both fought together.
In all anti-British fatwas of Jihad issued by Maulavis in 1857, even the word Dhimmi is not used.
Hindus become brothers (भाईबंध or हम-वतन).
So, Ambedkar was totally wrong when he said Muslims considered Hindus as Kafirs!
